NEW DELHI, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- An unidentified number of people were trapped inside a coal mine in India's north-eastern state of Assam on Monday after water gushed into it, confirmed a senior cop over phone.
The incident occurred in the Dima Hasao district's Umrangso area.
"Several people feared trapped inside a coal mine in Umrangso area in Dima Hasao district. We can't say the exact figure as of now," Dima Hasao district's Superintendent of Police Mayank Kumar Jha said over phone.
According to the latest reports, rescue work was on to safely bring out those trapped inside the coal mine. ■
