BANGKOK, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of couples are lining up to tie the knot on Valentine's Day at the Bang Rak district office in the Thai capital of Bangkok as Rak stands for love in the Thai language.
The office held an annual event, with the theme this year of "sign of love" at CAT tower in the district to welcome all couples who want to register in the district of love on Valentine's Day.
More than 300 couples registered online to attend the event.
At the scene, all the couples were given a gift and chances to win golden marriage certificate or other rewards in a lucky draw.
British man Neil and his Thai wife, who arrived early morning for registration, told Xinhua that they came to the district because "today in this place is quite special -- Rak from Bang Rak means love in Thai plus Thursday is the Valentine's Day."
Thai couple Mr. Golf and Ms. Su said they came here for the same reason as the name of the place has "great meaning."
The Thai couple will go to Phuket for their honeymoon, as they have just won air tickets to the southern resort island as well as accommodation provided by event organizers.
They mentioned that there were already more than 200 couples waiting in the queue here at 7 a.m.
