JAKARTA, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia opened on Thursday the registration for the 2019 Borobudur Marathon, which was participated by 205 runners from 30 countries and regions last year.
The event slated on November 17 is expected to attract more than 10,000 runners, according to Budiman Tanuredja, an official of the marathon's organizers.
"We are optimistic about the future of this marathon event. It may become one of world's landmark marathon competitions," Tanuredja said in the marathon gala dinner event here on Tuesday.
It would be held around the premises of world's largest Buddhist temple of Borobudur located in Indonesia's Central Java province city of Magelang.
The international marathon event initiated in 2012 will contend a full marathon, a 21-kilometer half marathon and a 10km run this year.
Dubbed as Indonesia's best marathon event by sports website Run Hood, the 2018 version of Borobudur Marathon was also picked as the most favorite marathon event in the country by national association of Indo Runners.
Last year, the event was dominated by runners from Kenyan in both full and half marathons for men's and women's categories, brushing aside other competitors from the United States, the Netherlands, Malaysia and Singapore.
